We organise a varied programme of events throughout the year including apiary visits, winter meetings, a Summer Convention and an Annual Dinner. Being close to the county boundaries, we welcome beekeepers from Lancashire, Cumbria and North Yorkshire to all our events.
In addition to our full members, we welcome as Friends, those in our area who would like to keep bees in the future or who just wish to learn more about bees and beekeeping as well as those who have retired from active beekeeping but who wish to remain in contact with us. Friends of Sedbergh Beekeepers can play a full part in any of our events and we invite Friends to take up full membership as soon as they receive their first colony. Instruction, on-site training and help for our new members is informal, but an advantage of our small size is that new members and Friends are assigned mentors to call on for help, always given willingly and freely.
We have an equipment secretary from whom various items of club equipment may be borrowed free of charge. We have honey extractors, uncapping equipment, a refractometer and a professional quality microscope plus books, DVDs and videos of various aspects of beekeeping. At apiary visits, we make extra protective clothing and boots available for Friends and visitors when hives are to be opened for inspection.
